How to Clean Pencil Marks From Fabric

Pencil marks look unsightly, particularly on light-colored clothing.

Accidentally dropping a pencil on fabric can leave it with an annoying stain. However, don't throw the material away or deem it to be used only for dirty tasks as removing the mark is easy to do. There are several different options to choose from when removing a pencil mark including using a pretreatment or making your own spray. Either way, after just a few steps and a short amount of time, the material will be rid of the unsightly pencil mark.

Lay the garment on a flat surface.

Spray aerosol pretreatment stain remover on the pencil mark until the fabric is saturated.

Pour 1/2 tbsp. heavy duty laundry detergent on the mark. Rub the liquid in with your fingers, then allow the detergent to sit for three to five minutes.

Hand-wash the fabric with warm water until the detergent is removed.

Wash and dry the fabric according to the directions on the care label.

Alcohol Method1

Place 1/4 cup water, eight drops liquid dishwashing detergent and 3/4 cup rubbing alcohol in a plastic spray bottle. Shake the bottle to mix the solution.

Spray the mixture on the pencil mark until the fabric is saturated.

Scrub the mark with a toothbrush using a back and forth motion.

Wash and dry the item according to the directions on the care label.
