How to Make an Effective Disguise

There are many reasons why someone would want to disguise himself, whether it is for a costume party or a more serious reason, such as accomplishing some task that requires secrecy. It is important when designing a disguise to come up with something that does not stand out too obviously as such or that attracts more attention than you want. It is best to create a disguise that enables you to blend in with those around you and allow you to remain unnoticed and forgotten.

Prepare your wardrobe. Purchase new clothing that none of your family or acquaintances has seen. Select neutral colors such as beige and grey and solid colors over patterned fabric.

Select clothing that is different from what you usually wear. For example, if you usually wear button-down dress shirts, select a T-shirt or a collared jersey shirt. Do not forget to get new shoes as well. Choose high-topped boots or running shoes if you normally never wear them.

Practice a different type of walk in front of a mirror. Perfect a short-stride, slow walk if your normal gait is more of a swagger, or vice versa. Concentrate on disguising your body language, as it conveys much about your identity.
